Missionary Update | Lo Último En Misiones
It is so great that I get to announce that Kierra (Jones) Block will be joining NBC as our newest Missionary!
Kierra grew up at Valley Church (NBC’s parent church) and is the daughter of Valley Church Pastor Kurt (and Valorie) Jones.
Kierra is on staff with Challenge Ministry at California Baptist University (CBU). Kierra had the opportunity to
be a part of Challenge Discipleship Ministry while she was a student at CBU. Once she graduated she was
asked to come on staff and has been a part of Challenge Ministry since August of 2019.
Challenge exists to meet students where they are and help them take the next steps in their spiritual journey.
Even though CBU is a Baptist University, only about 1/3 of the students profess a relationship with Jesus. The next steps where the students are headed in their spiritual journey could have many facets. Some could be reading a Bible for the first time and others could need encouragement to grow in and share a faith that they grew up with. Challenge’s mission is to make disciples, both here and of all nations. Their strategy follows the 2 Timothy 2:2 model of passing on truth to faithful believers who will be able to teach others also.
What does a missionary for Challenge ministry do day to day?
Kierra spends most of her time meeting with young women to guide and establish them in spiritual maturity
and to equip them to make disciples. She also facilitates student Bible Studies for the women, works with her team to plan events, and completes various administrative work that helps the ministry be efficient and
effective.
What does she love most about Challenge?
She loves seeing young women fall in love with Jesus and watching Him transform their lives.
Kierra specifically asked for prayer at this time for:
- Pray for God to sustain student’s faith and help them to continue growing spiritually over the Christmas break
- Pray for students to take what they’ve learned and experienced in Christ back to their families and friends
- Pray for Bryce and Kierra to enjoy their first Christmas together and to stay disciplined over the break. (Yes, she was just married in August)

Kierra creció en Valley Church (la iglesia madre de NBC) y es la hija del pastor de Valley Church Kurt (y Valorie) Jones. Kierra forma parte del personal del Ministerio de Desafíos en la Universidad Bautista de California (CBU). Kierra tuvo la oportunidad de ser parte de Challenge Discipleship Ministry mientras era estudiante en CBU. Una vez que se graduó le pidieron que se uniera al personal y ha sido parte de Challenge Ministry desde agosto de 2019.
Challenge Ministry existe para encontrar a los estudiantes en la etapa de vida que se encuentren y ayudarlos a dar los siguientes pasos en su viaje espiritual. Aunque CBU es una Universidad Bautista, solo alrededor de 1/3 de los estudiantes profesan una relación con Jesús. Los próximos pasos hacia los que se dirigen los estudiantes en su viaje espiritual podrían tener muchas facetas. Algunos podrían ser leyendo una Biblia por primera vez y otros podrían necesitar aliento para crecer y compartir la fe en la que crecieron. La misión de Challenge Ministry es hacer discípulos, tanto aquí como en todas las naciones. Su estrategia sigue la de 2 Timoteo 2: 2 donde encontramos un modelo de transmitir la verdad a los creyentes fieles que también podrán enseñar a otros.
¿Qué hace un misionero para el ministerio Challenge día a día?
Kierra pasa la mayor parte de su tiempo reuniéndose con mujeres jóvenes para guiarlas y establecerlas en la madurez espiritual. Y prepararlas para hacer discípulos. También facilita estudios bíblicos de estudiantes para las mujeres, trabaja con su equipo para planificar eventos y completa varios trabajos administrativos que ayudan al ministerio a ser eficaz.
¿Qué es lo que más nos gusta de Challenge Ministry?
Nos encanta ver a las mujeres jóvenes enamorarse de Jesús y com transforman sus vidas.
Kierra pidió específicamente oración en este momento por:
- Ore para que Dios sostenga a los estudiantes en su fe y para que sigan creciendo espiritualmente en esta época de navidad
- Ore para que los estudiantes lleven lo que han aprendido y experimentado en Cristo a sus familias y amigos
- Ore para que Bryce y Kierra disfruten juntos de su primera Navidad y se mantengan disciplinados durante las vacaciones. (Sí, acaba de casarse en agosto)
