Questions for the Community

Personal Reflection

  1. Do you pay attention to your story? What level do you look at (facts, feelings, intentions, interpretations)?
  2. What do YOU think about Calvin’s first 2 “institutes” (mentioned at the end: “knowledge of self; knowledge of God”)?

Group Discussion

  1. Review the story going on in these 2 chapters. What jumps out to you? Why do you think it does?
  2. What are the merits of looking up topics and individual verses in the Bible? What problems occurs with ONLY learning to read the Bible that way? What is the challenge of reading a whole book? What are the rewards? Are there dangers of ONLY doing that kind of Bible reading?
  3. What part of Paul’s story most speaks to you and your story at the moment? Write down what you hear God saying.
  4. Testify to your own examples of rescue and reassurances. Give people in your group the gift of really listening to the details of their lives without trying to connect things for them.
  5. Do you have your own “I must go to Jerusalem and then on to Rome!” kind of marching orders or direction like Paul? Why or why not? Would you like to have that?

Wonder Church ACTivate!

  1. If you could say what your life proves beyond a doubt, what would that be? Take the time needed to really see not only the FACTS about your life but the arc of the STORY. Sit with the Author of creation and your life long enough to still your own voice that is providing commentary. Trust when he takes you to hard places and ask for him to speak the truth over you.
