Questions for the Community

Personal Reflection

  1. What comes with the phrase “Do your best”? Do you hear shame, guilt or avoidance attached to that? Does it stir up passion to get after things? Does it sound cliche…void of any real meaning?
  2. Invite God into why you answered the way you did in question one. Is there some voice you are listening to that you should mute? Is there something in your personality that resists this or is gullible about how simple things will be? Let him lead you in love.

Group Discussion

  1. Explain why do’s and don’ts in relationship are a great thing. What specific ones are present in the text this week?
  2. What speaking and listening principles are gifted to us in the text? How do you see these being lived out in your life (either as a positive or negative example)
  3. Words matter. How can you determine whether it is wise and good to enter into a controversy about words?
  4. Jesus didn’t live a “fight free life” yet he always fought the GOOD fight. Are there fights you should stop being a part of? Are there fights you should engage in?

Plan of Action

7. Review the 8 questions about how to handle the Word well. Is your church ‘doing their best’? How can you be a voice to build up the body (church) in love? see Ephesians 4:16

8. Are YOU ‘doing your best’ at handling the Word and your words well? Let God affirm, correct, rebuke, cheer as necessary!
