Questions for the Community

Personal Reflection

  1. The ascension of Jesus gives a clear picture of him being alive and well after physical death. Do you believe this is your future?
  2. In your own words explain how Jesus’ departure is an ending and a beginning. How else could you explain the multi-layers of what his departure means?

Group Discussion

  1. What hit you? Did you experience joy, conviction, comfort, instruction on Sunday? Explain.
  2. How is Jesus’ parting like a Dr. retiring and turning over his practice? What do you think was going on in the minds of the disciples who witnessed this?
  3. Review the ways in which Jesus’ Ascension is an ending and a beginning. Read the passages to help illuminate what is going on. What does this stir in the heart/mind of a Christian? What does it stir in you?
  4. The disciples parted with Jesus and were filled with worship and great joy. How is this different from many other partings you’ve experienced? What does this tell us about the nature of Jesus’ leaving them?

Plan of Action

  1. Identify where you are in God’s plan to save the world. Do you know specifically how you are fulfilling the Great Commission? How is your church seeking to accomplish this?
  2. Invest time this week reflecting on Luke. What wisdom has God already provided to you that is pertinent to the season you are in?
