Lift Up Your Head | Levanta Tu Cabeza

Little did we know at the beginning of 2020 that the next six months would be a flurry of distress, anxiety, and unrest. It all began in January with the process of trying to impeach the president. Shortly after that, news of a deadly virus was coming out of China and had the potential of killing millions of people. Finally, when the virus landed, people were called to shelter in place, causing businesses to shut down, furloughing or eventually laying off employees, and the loss of millions of jobs in the U.S. alone. This further caused a potent economic decline and caused millions to rethink their 401ks, investments, and retirements, let alone how they would be able to take care of their families and put food on the table. If that wasn’t enough, at the end of May, the horrifying death of a black man caused an outrage of protests, riots, and ongoing stressful situations.

Each one of these events taken by themselves would cause enough stress and anxiety as it is. The culmination of all of these events would further push people to the max and cause many to question what they really believe and if there really is a God. As followers of Jesus Christ, though, we know that God has always been in control, is in control, and will continue to be in control. None of this has taken God by surprise, and He even warns us of a time when Jesus will come as a thief in the night and the heavens and earth will pass away.

In Luke 21, specifically verse 28, Jesus tells us that when these things begin to take place He tells us to “straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near.” As we take God’s words to heart, not only can we be excited about His glorious return and rest peacefully in Him, but we can confidently preach the word of Jesus Christ and point others to Jesus, knowing our Savior is returning soon. Blessed be the Lord Jesus Christ!
