Who Do You Delight In? | ¿Con Quién Te Deleitas?
We live in a day and age when the accessibility of knowledge, whether good or evil, is literally in the palm of our hand due to technology in the form of our cell phone. With just one click, we can become a self proclaimed “expert” on any subject in a matter of seconds. Let alone, one click can also send us down a pathway of evil. It seems we are so closely tied to the access of instant knowledge that if we misplace, break, or lose our cell phone, we feel as though a part of our identity may go with it. We need to be careful of just how much importance we place on our phones and the ability to obtain the knowledge that it provides.
On the other hand, we also have instant access to the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and the creator of the heavens and earth, the giver of all knowledge and truth, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With instant access to technology and instant access to our true Creator, it begs the question, “What do you delight in?” or more specifically, “Who do you delight in? The Creator or the created?” Read Romans 1 and you can choose.
One of my favorite psalms is Psalm 37, and tucked away in that psalm is verse 4 which states, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Now there are a couple of wise takeaways from this verse alone. The first takeaway is the word delight. The meaning of this word means to take full pleasure in, be inclined towards, or to be fully satisfied in. I love the word picture of one who is outstretched on a warm, sunny day, taking pleasure, or basking in the warmth of the sun. We are told to delight in the Lord, to be fully known by Him, to pleasure in Him, to be thoroughly enthralled and entrenched with who He is.
Secondly, we are told that when we are delighted in the Lord that He will give us the desires of our hearts. We need to be careful here because some take it to think that God will give us our fleshly desires, such as a big house, nice car, and plenty of money to go around. I think you get the point. Needless to say, the desires He gives us are the desires of God’s heart Himself. Obviously, when we come to saving faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, it is only then that we are given a new heart – the heart of God. When you begin to let God do a work in you, you begin to see the world as God does.
Now the question becomes, “How do we delight in God?” Simple: we are to dwell in the richness of God’s word and be thoroughly immersed in who He is and be obedient to His word. Many scriptures themselves point out the blessings of meditating on the word of God, hiding His word in your heart, and delighting in who He is. In fact, Psalm 1 states, “Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the Lord and on His law he meditates day and night.” It goes on to say that this man will be fruitful and prosperous in whatever he does, according to God’s word of course. Now, this meditating on God’s word is more than just a five minute read into God’s word a day. It is a constant day and night dwelling in God’s word. Your whole life is consumed with who God is, what He says about Himself, and how He plans to change your life.
I can assure you that once you choose to delight in our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and dwell in His mighty word that your life will change in ways you never thought possible. You will see the world, let alone people, in a new light, and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. And as Joshua 24:15 says, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!” Now, go ahead, put your phone down, open up the Bible, and delight yourself in our beautiful, wonderful, and amazing Savior, Jesus Christ!
Vivimos en una época en la que el acceso al conocimiento, ya sea bueno o malo, está literalmente en la palma de nuestra mano, debido a la tecnología, en la forma de nuestro teléfono celular. Con un solo clic, podemos convertirnos en un “experto” autoproclamado en cualquier tema, en cuestión de segundos. Pero también, un clic puede enviarnos por un camino de maldad. Parece que estamos tan estrechamente ligados al acceso al conocimiento instantáneo, que si extraviamos nuestro teléfono celular, lo rompemos o lo perdemos, sentimos que una parte de nuestra identidad se va con él. Debemos tener cuidado con la importancia que damos a nuestros teléfonos y la capacidad de obtener el conocimiento que proporciona.
Por otro lado, también tenemos acceso instantáneo al Rey de reyes, Señor de señores y creador de los cielos y la tierra, el dador de todo conocimiento y verdad, nuestro Señor y Salvador, Jesucristo. Con acceso instantáneo a la tecnología y acceso instantáneo a nuestro verdadero creador, surge la pregunta, ¿en qué se deleita o, más específicamente, en quién se deleita? ¿En El creador o en lo creado? Uno de mis salmos favoritos es el salmo 37, y escondido en ese salmo está el versículo 4, que dice: “Deléitate en el Señor, y él te concederá los deseos de tu corazón”. Ahora hay un par de sabias conclusiones en este versículo. La primera conclusión es la palabra deleite. El significado de esta palabra significa disfrutar plenamente, estar inclinado hacia o estar plenamente satisfecho. Veo la siguiente imagen cuando pienso en esta palabra, donde alguien está tendido en un día cálido y soleado, disfrutando del calor de el sol. Se nos dice que nos deleitemos en el Señor, que seamos plenamente conocidos por Él, que nos complazcamos en Él, que estemos completamente cautivados y atrincherados con quién es Él. En segundo lugar, se nos dice que cuando nos deleitamos en el Señor, Él nos concederá los deseos de nuestro corazón. Debemos tener cuidado aquí porque algunos piensan que Dios nos dará nuestros deseos carnales, como una casa grande, un auto bonito y mucho dinero para todos, creo que entiendes el punto. No hace falta decir que los deseos que nos da son los deseos del corazón de Dios mismo. Obviamente, cuando llegamos a la fe salvadora en nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo, es solo entonces que se nos da un corazón nuevo, el corazón de Dios. Cuando comienzas a dejar que Dios haga una obra en ti, comienzas a ver el mundo como Dios lo ve.
Ahora, la pregunta es, ¿cómo nos deleitamos en Dios? Sencillo, debemos vivir en la riqueza de la palabra de Dios y estar completamente inmersos en quién es él y ser obedientes a Su Palabra. Muchas escrituras mismas señalan las bendiciones de meditar en la palabra de Dios y esconder su palabra en nuestro corazón y deleitarnos en quién es Él. De hecho, el Salmo 1 dice que Bienaventurado el hombre cuyo deleite está en la ley del Señor y en su ley medita en ella de día y noche. Continúa diciendo que este hombre será fructífero y próspero en todo lo que haga, de acuerdo con la palabra de Dios, por supuesto. Ahora, esta meditación en la palabra de Dios es más que una lectura diaria de cinco minutos en la palabra de Dios. Es una constante morada de día y de noche en la palabra de Dios. Toda tu vida está consumida por quién es Dios, lo que dice sobre sí mismo y cómo planea cambiar tu vida.
Puedo asegurarte que una vez que elijas deleitarte en nuestro maravilloso Señor y Salvador, Jesucristo, y habites en Su poderosa Palabra, de que tu vida cambiará en formas que nunca creíste posibles. Tú verás al mundo y a las personas bajo una nueva luz, y la paz de Dios, que sobrepasa todo entendimiento, guardará tu corazón y tu mente en Cristo Jesús. Y como dice en Josue 24:15 “Por mi parte, mi familia y yo serviremos al Señor”. Ahora, adelante, apague su teléfono, abra la Biblia y deléitese con nuestro hermoso, maravilloso y asombroso Salvador, Jesucristo!
