But I Trust | Pero Yo Confío
“But I trust in Your unfailing love. My heart rejoices in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for He has dealt bountifully with me.” Psalm 13:5-6
I’ve been paying attention to these verses for the past few weeks. Though the concept of trust is needed daily, it’s only really brought to the forefront when we need it. It’s kind of like breathing – you need to breathe every day, but you don’t even really think about it until you are having a hard time breathing or you aren’t able to breathe at all.
This is a period of time where the Palm family and the NBC family are being asked to trust in a big way. As most of you have heard, through a process initiated by the elders, we have come to the unified conclusion that now is the right time for NBC and me to part ways as a staff pastor. Needless to say, we are needing to trust God during this time because the future is unknown – both for the Palm family and for the NBC family.
A key word in these verses is the first word – “but.” It’s a transition word. The first four verses of Psalm 13 are full of David’s plight – how he feels alienated by the people around him, attacked from every angle, and abandoned by God. After four verses of honest complaining, David says, “But.” He is saying that regardless of the circumstances, he is trusting God. It doesn’t matter to him how hard things are. He is choosing to trust His Lord.
The last verse answers the question of why David makes that choice. He chooses to trust because God “has dealt bountifully” with him. David remembers how God has been good in the past. So he knows God will be good again.
How has God been good to you? How has He shown you His faithfulness? That same God is watching over you and me right now. He is being good right now. And He will be good again. Remember His goodness. Let that help you trust Him, especially when you need it the most, whenever that may be.

Es como respirar: necesitas respirar todos los días, pero ni siquiera piensas en ello hasta que te cuesta respirar o no puedes respirar en absoluto.
Esta es una temporada en la que se le pide a la familia Palm y a la familia de NBC que confíen a lo grande. Una palabra clave en estos versículos es la primera palabra: “pero”. Es una palabra de transición. Los primeros cuatro versículos del Salmo 13 están llenos de difíciles situaciones de David: cómo se siente aislado por las personas que lo rodean, atacado desde todos los ángulos y abandonado por Dios. Después de cuatro versículos de quejas honestas, David dice: “Pero”. Dice que, independientemente de las circunstancias, confía en Dios. No le importa lo difíciles que sean las cosas. Está eligiendo confiar en Su Señor.
El último versículo responde a la pregunta de por qué David tomó esa decisión. Él elige confiar porque Dios “es bueno conmigo”. David recuerda cómo Dios ha sido bueno en el pasado. Entonces sabe que Dios volverá a ser bueno.
¿Cómo ha sido Dios bueno contigo? ¿Cómo te ha mostrado su fidelidad? Ese mismo Dios está velando por ti y por mí en este momento. Él está siendo bueno en este momento. Y volverá a ser bueno. Recuerda Su bondad. Deje que eso le ayude a confiar en Él, especialmente cuando más lo necesite, cuando sea que eso sea.
